If caught in time, is colon rectal cancer life threating?
mybean38 asked:
My father recently found out that he has a tumor in the wall of his colon. Dr's assure him it can be taken care of. Is this true. He is 71. They are taking their good old time at this, and he is worried.

Any form of cancer can be life threatening. Fortunately for your father, there are many treatments available and if caught early enough, the odds of making it through are higher. The key is to make sure you ask lots of questions. If you’re concerned that the Doctors are taking their sweet time, get a second opinion. Doing that could very well be the difference between receiving “okay” treatment versus “great” treatment.

Ca of the large bowel
The tumour is limited to the bowel for a considerable time.
The progression of invasion occurs across the submucosa into the musculatis propia and thence out into the serosa and fat, lymphatics and veins in the mesentery alongside the bowel wall.
So the stage is important! operability!Adjuvant therapy!

No it’s not life threatening, unless it spreads. If it is just the tumor on the intestine, that’s easy to take care of. All doctors will do is take out that portion of the intestine and resect it. He may need a round of chemo afterward just as a precautionary measure that it hasn’t metastisized (spread).
