Colon Cleanse Works

PostHeaderIcon My father has cancer.is it worth chemo?

D asked:

My father has colon cancer which has spread to his liver, prostate, lungs, lymphnodes and other organs. His colon is taken up by one big tumor which has now caused him to have an iliostomy and his liver is consumed with many small tumors. It is very advanced, he just turned 78...the doctors gave him 3 months to live. Is chemo worth it?? Right now we are telling him he shouldn't do it. I have taken care of 2 uncles and 2 grandfathers that had less cancer and were younger. Chemo didn't work and it only made them miserable. What do you think?

i know it is a hard decision, but i agree that he should not. you know how horrible it is. if he feels that his life is fulfilled, then he should not be living his last few months more miserable. i am so sorry and wish you the best.

My heart goes out to you …I know your feelings. I am afraid to say that you are right. And I agree with you. What I can say is that perhaps the doctor can prescribe him some pain medication to aliviate the pain. Chemo in his case might not work. And the family should start preparing for his departure …getting all paperworks and stuff in order so that when the time comes there would not be so much confusion. And his wishes would be carried on.
Of course don’t tell him anything that might depress him, I can see that he still has the will to live. Make the time left a very memorable time for both of you. record his memories. My prayers goes for you and the family.

What a tough one love, my mum had cancer in the liver and they basically told me well, umm i think if chemo can give your dad more time why not, BUT if its gona just cause him more pain and no more time is it worth the pain. i understand i would say as a daughter go for it try please but hard it may be chat to the docs get their honest opinion if it will give him much more time i would. chat to me if you want, i have been there, my mum died with liver cancer and my dad is very sick now, i know how you feel mate xxx

I doubt if any Dr. would give him chemo in his weakened condition and really, it’s his choice if he wants it or not.

It sounds to me like you already made up your mind and have him buried already.

My co-worker’s wife has been fighting colon cancer stage four for the last seven years. The cancer left her colon then went into her lungs, and into several different other places and with chemotherapy and radiation she is still living and seems to be doing fine.

I would honor your father’s wishes and if he wants to fight for his life then let him. Everyone responds to chemotherapy differently. Nobody really knows how long another person has to live. The same doctors gave my wife’s friend only six months to live and she is still going strong.

It is attitude and the will to live that makes all the difference in the world. I don’t mean to sound cold, but it is exactly how your question sounds to me.

I agree with you. Chemo is not going to do him any good except to make him more sick and miserable. It might even kill him since the cancer is so widespread. His body is already weak and chemo is very hard on the body. He needs to just be kept as comfortable as possible and accept that the fight is over. I don’t understand why the doctors are even offering him chemo except that it would make money for someone. I think it’s ridiculous to put a 78 year old man with malignant cancer throughout his body through chemo at this late stage. The doctor who suggests it for him is not doing the right thing. The doctor should not even tell him it is an option to him. Instead, he should talk to him about getting hospice set up so that he can be as comfortable as possible for the amount of time he has left here. I’m sorry to be so blunt, but when I read your question, it just made me so mad that some doctor would be willing to do this to a patient that has little time left. It should be spent with his family, not fighting the terrible side effects of chemo which can be hard on a much younger healthier person. I can only imagine what it will do to your father in his advanced condition. Make the best of the time you have left with him. My father died of stomach cancer that spread everywhere, so I can sympathize with what you are going through. My heart goes out to you.

NO!. Please don’t put him through chemo at this stage. He will probably have side effects, like vomiting , nausea, loss of appetite, & diarrhea if he has chemo. You should concentrate on making him comfortable in the few weeks or months he has left. I’ve seen too many patients who keep trying to get better with chemo who became worse with the symptoms I mentioned. I hope you have Hospice in to help both you and him go through this terminal phase he is going through. Try to keep him pain free now & be with him for physical support. Good luck.

I see your side of this, but if he is saying he wants to fight, then let him give it a try. If he’s with you, though, that’s fine too. I mean, don’t push him one way or the other. If he’s going to die, he should be allowed to die knowing he was able to have some control over his destiny.

I dont think chemo is the way to go with your father. Well first off it makes your hair fall off and makes you sicker than what you are. There is nothing nutricious about it.There is nothing in chemo to boost your fathers immune system. He needs something that will makes him healthy from within. Something that will help him get up and go.Try vitamins and nutrients and fluids.Things that are natural and healthy.
